from the Faculty Constitution (Appendix A of the
Faculty Handbook), Article III, Paragraph C:
A majority of the regular voting members of the Faculty voting at a meeting
of the university faculty at which a quorum is present may extend fixed-term
membership and voting rights to other faculty members as specified in
Article I of the by-laws (Appendix B).
- Details
from the Faculty By-Laws (Appendix B of the Faculty Handbook),
Article I, sections A-E:
- The faculty of the University is defined in Article III.1. of
of the Constitution (Appendix A).
- The regular voting members of the Faculty are defined
in Article III.2. of the Constitution (Appendix A).
- The regular voting members of the Faculty may extend
vote, on a fixed-term basis, to other members of the Faculty
- A list of candidates for fixed-term voting membership shall
be prepared by the University Faculty Council for action by
the Faculty at its regular spring meeting.
The terms of such membership shall be for the next academic year.
- The regular voting members of the Faculty,
along with fixed-term voting members, shall constitute the
voting members of the Faculty
- Recent History:
In spring 2004 the Category I faculty voted to extend voting rights to
Category II faculty during the 2005-2006 academic year. The faculty
were unable to vote on continuing this extension at our spring 2006 faculty
meetings because the quorum count was lost before we could get to the
agenda item related to this extension. Accordingly, only category I
faculty are current voting members of the faculty.
Extension of voting rights to Category II faculty are to be considered
during the fall 2006 faculty meeting.
- The Proposal:
The proposal, then, is to extend voting rights to all Category II faculty
for the 2006-07 academic year.
