Associate Professor of Biology, CSRRI, BCPS Department
Chief Scientific Officer, IMCA-CAT
Co-Director, IIT Masters in Health Physics Program
Education:
B.A. Pomona College, 1975
Ph.D. University of California San Diego, 1981
Postdoctoral: UCLA and Inhalation Toxicology Research Institute
Research Interests:
Biophysics; Methods Development in Macromolecular Crystallography
Biography:
Professor Howard has been developing methods and tools for
macromolecular crystallography since the 1970's, first in academia,
then in the biotechnology industry in the 1980's and early 1990's, and
at IIT since 1996. He was director of the Industrial Macromolecular
Crystallography Association Collaborative Access Team (IMCA-CAT) from
1996 to 2002 and continues as Chief Scientific Officer of the CAT now.
He teaches biochemistry, biophysics, and introductory science courses
on campus, and directs IIT's successful Masters in Health Physics
program. He has published over 40 papers, serves on NIH and NASA
peer-review panels, and is co-PI on a major NIH Program Project grant
in structural genomics.
