Dear Professor Troyk:

I am writing to you in my capacity as Chair of the Search Committee now being formed to identify candidates for the next president of the university.

The "Procedures for the Selection of the President," approved by the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees at their September 19, 2006 meeting states, "There shall be a minimum of three faculty members appointed from a list of at least nine candidates provided by the University Faculty Council."

I am asking that you, as Chair of the University Faculty Council, present this request to the full council for immediate consideration. As a date of October 6th has been set to finalize membership of the Search Committee, I would ask that the recommended slate of nine faculty members be made available to me not later than Friday, September 29th.

To ensure that the candidates being considered reflect the university's best thinking, during the course of the presidential search I will be looking to the UFC, and the faculty at large for their continued counsel. I look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

John W. Rowe
Chairman of the Board
