Joseph LoCicero, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has asked that the faculty consider the following matter.
Some 20 years ago, full-time faculty enjoyed a fringe benefit: no charge parking on MC. When that benefit was taken away, a nominal fee was charged for full-time faculty to park on MC. The fee was moderately increased at first, but has been excessively increased over the past 5-6 years. It can be accurately described as the rip-off or rape of the faculty for MC parking.
The supporting data that I have, over the past 10 years, is below (for annual MC parking for full-time faculty).
Year | Parking Fee |
Increase | Percent Increase |
07-08 | $ 480 | $55 | 12.9% |
06-07 | $ 425 | $50 | 13.3% |
05-06 | $ 375 | $25 | 7.1% |
04-05 | $ 350 | $50 | 16.7% |
03-04 | $ 300 | $100 | 50% |
02-03 | $ 200 | $100 | 100% |
01-02 | $ 100 | $15 | 17.6% |
00-01 | $ 85 | $10 | 13.3% |
99-00 | $ 75 | $25 | 50% |
98-99 | $ 50 | $0 | 0% |
97-98 | $ 50 | $0 | 0% |
The IIT faculty do approve the Faculty Handbook in which there is a section on Parking. I might suggest including a control statement limiting the MC faculty parking increase percentage to the smaller of: the cost of living percent increase or the average IIT faculty salary percent increase.
Kindly bring this as an agenda item to the Faculty Council.
