Faculty Handbook Revision Committee

At its October 10, 2002 meeting, the University Faculty Council established the ad-hoc Faculty Handbook Revision Committee to draft revisions to the Faculty Handbook to make it consistent with a single-campus university with a provost instead of campus vice-presidents. The committee membership is Howard Eglit, Ellen Mitchell, Mary Anne Smith, and Geoff Williamson.

The committee met throughout the 2002/2003 academic year, during the summer of 2003, and into the Fall 2003 semester to prepare a draft revision of the handbook for consideration. In addition to making the Faculty Handbook consistent with a single-campus university, the committee has also made some additional clarifications and informational updates. The committee submitted its draft revision to the University Faculty Council (UniFC) in late 2003, and further revisions have been made to the documents seen here, based on votes taken at UniFC meetings. All changes (deletions and additions) are clearly marked in the draft revised documents.

The draft revisions of the Faculty Handbook are now available here for faculty review and comment. The revised main text of the Faculty Handbook and each revised appendix are presented here in two forms. In one form the revision is presented as a marked-up copy of the current Handbook, with strike-outs indicating deleted text and underlining indicating added text. The other form is a "clean" copy showing the final form of the revision without the editing marks.

Also available here is a memorandum from the committee to the University Faculty Council that describes the work done by the committee and outlines the changes from the current Faculty Handbook.
